ATTIRE AND SHOES:

FEMALE STUDENTS: The uniform for female students is any solid-colored, one-piece leotard, convertible ballet pink or flesh colored tights, and pink or flesh colored ballet slippers. PLEASE NO ATTACHED SKIRTS, TUTUS, OR DANCE DRESSES. Students in upper levels (Levels IV-VII) may have specified leotard colors for certain classes and may be allowed to wear ballet skirts for the center portion of classes, in the discretion of the instructor.

  • COMPANY UNIFORM: Company Uniform for females is a black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers or pointe shoes.

MALE STUDENTS: Male Students enrolled in Pre-School, Primary and Level Dance classes must wear a white fitted athletic or dance shirt with black shorts, tights, or dance/exercise pants, and black or white ballet slippers. Boys may wear black or white socks, depending upon the color of their ballet slippers.

  • COMPANY UNIFORM: Company Uniform for males is a white dance or athletic shirt, black dance tights (or shorts in extreme heat, and black ballet shoes).

TAP SHOES: Dancers taking tap classes will need tan tap shoes.

JAZZ SHOES: Dancers taking jazz will need tan jazz shoes.

MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL: Dancers may wear half-soles for modern dance contemporary or lyrical classes.

POINTE SHOES: Pointe shoes are appropriate only for those Students approved by Bluebirds Ballet Academy to take classes en pointe.

SLIDES/RECOVERY SHOES/DANCE BOOTIES: All dancers will need a pair of slides, recovery shoes, or dance booties that can go over ballet slippers to use for changing studios and for going to and from the studio. Crocs, soft dance booties, and slides are the easiest shoes to go over ballet and pointe shoes. House slippers for young children may also be used. Dance shoes should not ever be worn outside.

WHERE TO PURCHASE DANCE ATTIRE/SHOES?  All dance wear can be purchased at The Ultimate dance supply store. Just tell them that you are a Bluebird and they will be able to fully outfit you for classes.

HAIRSTYLES AND JEWELRY:

Hair should be secured back and up off the neck, in a bun, twist or similar hairstyle for all dance classes. A ballet bun is the preferred hairstyle for dancers in Level III and up. If dancers are taking Acrobatics Classes, a braid or two braids is the best hairstyle for classes. Please do not wear bows, big or hard clips or barrettes. They hurt the head when rolling and are distracting to the dancer. Jewelry should not be worn to dance classes. The exceptions are stud earrings and religious items that can be safely tucked inside dance garments. Wearing jewelry can cause injury to dancers. Expensive or sentimental jewelry often gets lost during dance classes when students take them off or broken during movement. NO NECKLACES, BRACELETS, DANGLING EARRINGS, OR WATCHES.

DANCE BAGS:

Students need to bring DANCE BAGS for shoes, both dance and recovery shoes to arrive and go home in. Students should arrive with their dance bags with as few personal items (items unrelated to dance or personal hygiene) as possible in their bags. Please leave school items or other items at home so they are not lost at the studio. If a student needs to have additional bags or items with them, extra items can be left in Studio B where there is more space.

WATER:

Please make sure your child brings water with him or her to class, with his or her name labeled on the bottle. Water may be purchased next door at Caffe Cottage.
